Alejandro Carlín: tribute to Frida Kahlo full of femininity and elegance
The Mercedes Fashion Week catwalk has ended the 18th edition with a golden chash. The occasion was no less: the designer Alejandro Carlin presented his Spring-Summer 2016 collection on the stage of the Mexican Fashion Week happening in the Federal District.
The Mexican designer once again showed his constant claim and cutting-edge styles in a glamorous collection inspired by one of the most internationally recognized Mexican artists, who has become an icon: Frida Kahlo. Designers from around the world as Valentino and Givenchy have invested their time in showing the style of the Mexican painter in some of the biggest fashion shows.
Sample garments designed under the paradigm of what would be Frida’ s style today, incorporating elements of the painter’ s paintings as well as an exotic colors full of femininity and elegance. Therefore culture and folklore of the designer’s country are reflected in each outfit through materials such us leather or silk, where the palette plays a very important role. In fact, these colours come directly from the Mexican flag: red (to fuchsia-red), green and white. In these the only exception is an elegant black that becomes a main character in a total black look. This monochromatic outfit is very useful in the show, since most combinations have great sobriety, and despite the glamour of materials and color mixtures, these are not recharged in patterns or textures. Nevertheless the collection presents a fine and elegant woman playing with the combination of pieces of every color, or the same color as a whole.
Elegance, luxury and glamour are the elements in which Alejandro bases his creativity to live up his collections and create designs for the modern and sophisticated woman in every season. So this time the clothes could not be less: feminine silhouettes with a touch of leather and color accents in combinations made of blouse and skirt, dresses and overalls.
Natural textiles, handmade finishings and organic shape, a mixture of traditional folklore and the current Mexico, in which Carlín presents a collection full of luxury while avoiding extravagance, but based on a sober elegance where the satin is the protagonist of a celebration full of frills, bows and folds.
Peasant blouses and skirts were also highlighted pieces in the collection, showing the color and flavor of Mexican culture, that Kahlo loved. An example of this was the most apropiate combination that opened the catwalk with a brown skirt made of leather with the characteristic heart of Frida Kahlo stamped on it, accompanied by a gauzy white blouse. This would be one of the few prints from the collection, but perhaps one of the most characteristic elements, which has also been embroidered on another model in black.
Events’ clothing in which we can see long, slim and tight dresses, including tails and pronounced slits. Carlin is committed to stylish strapless necklines to give more femininity to his dresses and overalls, and V-neaks in most of his blouse combinations.
Accessories are scarce, not falling into extravagance, giving greater prominence to the clothes. The models have pulled hair and only wear long diamond earrings giving a touch of luxury. If we look to the shoes, all of them are wearing the same silver heels on firm wooden platforms made by Mila Milu. A trend that becomes fashionable again for the next spring giving casual touch to a comfortable but elegant shoes because of the silver color. The unique accessory in the collection is a headpiece in fuchsia tones that gives a distinguished touch.
Although most of the collection features dresses and skirts, trousers have also centered the catwalk. Most of them with a wide to straight cut, without becoming palazzo, but covering the shoes. This combination gives comfort and impresses of longer legs. Along with wide pants, we can also see capri trousers matched with the same coloured- top, seeming overalls. In the catwalk we can also see femenine blazers with peplum and sophisticated details accompanying the styles formed by trousers.
Clothes that will make every woman feel like a Cinderella of the XXI century full of sophistication and trends. A combination of the best of haute couture with a touch of Mexican folklore, inspired by one of the greatest muses that Mexico brought to the world. Alejando Carlín shows for the next Spring-Summer collection elegant garments in which satin and fluidity play an important role.
